The mean charge states of solar energetic ions were observed to increase with energy by SAMPEX and ACE during recent large solar events. This feature has had implications for the use of the observed charge state as probe of coronal electron temperature and density, as well as for models of ions acceleration and transport in the coronal plasma. In a nonequilibrium model that includes ionization, shock-induced acceleration, and energy losses, we will present simulated mean charge state, charge state distribution, and energy spectrum for Fe, Si, and O, along with comparisons to observations. We also discuss the sensitivity of the simulation to coronal and transport parameters.
