We are planning to publish the proceedings of the ACE-2000 Symposium as one of the series of American Institute of Physics (AIP) conference proceedings. The book will include papers by the invited speakers, as well as contributed papers from the poster session. All papers will be refereed and all registered attendees will receive a copy of the book.
Book Title: Acceleration and Transport of Energetic Particles Observed in the Heliosphere
Editors: R. A. Mewaldt, J. R. Jocipii, M. A. Lee, E. Moebius, T. H. Zurbuchen.
The AIP requires that the editors submit camera-ready copies of the papers to the AIP within three months of the Symposium (by no later than April 5, 2000). By maintaining this deadline it should be possible to have the book available by July 2000.
To insure the timeliness of this book, authors and referees must keep to the following deadlines:
The proceedings for this symposium will be published in the 8.5" x 11", two-column format.
In order to manage the content and length of the book, each registered attendee of the symposium will be allowed to submit a maximum of one paper, with maximum length four pages. Invited papers can be up to 8 pages in length.
Microsoft Word Here is a sample Word document with the correct formatting for ACE-2000: ACE-2000-example.doc. Word 97 templates are available from AIP.
LaTeX style files for the conference proceedings are available from
ftp://ftp.aip.org/ems/tex/macros/proceedings/8.5x11-2/.
There are a lot of files, but you need at least the following:
aipproc.cls, aipproc.bst, fix2col.sty.
The test.tex file (also test.bbl, test.bib) is a useful sample LaTeX file.
For your convenience, you can also download archived versions here: aipproc.zip or aipproc.tar. You'll need to unpack these archive files (using unzip or tar) into the directory where you'll be working on your paper.
Some people find that the following files are missing from their LaTeX installation.
Hopefully, providing them here will help you get up and running...
times.sty
mathptm.sty
Here's the manual for the LaTeX style files, in the correct format for ACE-2000: aipguide.ps or aipguide.pdf.
Color figures are allowed, but authors will be billed directly by AIP.
Unless you explicitly instruct otherwise, color figures will be converted to
black and white. When AIP has the author's consent to pay for color artwork, they will invoice
the author directly, at about the time the manuscript goes to the printers.
So, if you want your figures to appear in color,
contact AIP, and also
inform the editors when you submit your final camera-ready manuscript, so that
they can tag figures which are to be printed in color.
Cost for printing color (these are total costs):
More detailed instructions from AIP for preparation of camera-ready manuscripts can be found at http://www.aip.org/catalog/publish.html. Follow instructions for the 8.5" x 11", two-column format.
Instructions were also distributed at the conference, in the blue booklet titled "Instructions for Preparation of Camera Ready Manuscripts"
