Operations Day -- 306/1997 (2 Nov 97)
Pass Summary:
Nominal pass with full SSR data recovery achieved. One spacecraft anomaly
was encountered during the pass when the Star Scanner reset flag failed
checking twice within an eight minute period. Other parameters that would
usually be reset to zero during a Star Scanner reset such as the 'Valid
Command Count' were not reset and the Scanner data looks fine. This anomaly
is being investagted to determine if the telemetry may have been corrupted
when this flag state change was identified. In addition, the FOT has
turned on the Scanner 'Bitestar'. The Bitestar has no valid function on the
ACE Scanner but it will provide a sticky telltale if the Scanner resets since
the actual 'reset' flag clears itself within 3 major frames after it is set
but the Bitestar value will change to 'off' and remain off until reset from
the ground.
Anomalies:
* At 1741 and 1749, the continuous configmon flagged that the
star_reset parameter was <> No. The star_syncinit parameter also flagged.

Operations Day -- 307/1997 (3 Nov 97)
Summary:
Nominal pass with full SSR data recovery. Two separate spacecraft health
investigations were performed today. The first involved using the inactive C&
DH selectable telemetry byte to look at a temperature sensor (DCM1_AD1)
that APL had told the FOT may have failed (on the C&DH B side only) prior to
launch. Further investigation will be performed on day 308 to compare this C&
DH B value with the corresponding C&DH A value.
The second investigation was into the Star Scanner reset flag which seems to
be turning on and off throughout the day. This anomaly is being investigated
as potentially a TPOCC database problem since the Scanner seems healthy
otherwise and the other telltales that would indicate a software reset are
not being set. But, since the reset flag is not 'sticky' and clears itself
after 3 major frames, the FOT, with APL concurrence, has set the 'Bite Star'
flag via ground command. This flag, which is not used by the ACE Scanner
software, will act as a sticky telltale if a reset occurs since only a reset
will turn this flag to 'off' where it will remain until commanded from the
ground.
Anomalies:
G-0074 TPOCC display crash on AC1XT3 - no impact to operations
S-12 Star Scanner command rejected - cause: The Bite Star
command is uplinked in two pieces which must arrive at the Scanner
within one major frame of each other. Ground delays resulted in the
second half of the command not reaching the Scanner in the alloted time -
therefore the command was rejected. Impact: The Star Scanner command reject
incremented to 1. The command was resent within the timing allowance and was
accepted.

Operations Day -- 309/1997 (5 Nov 97)
Summary:
Good pass with one data drop out of ~3 minutes caused by problems at JPL.
Commanding was performed for the SWICS, CRIS and S3DPU instruments.
In the case of S3DPU and CRIS, some commands were rejected by the
instruments. One of the CRIS commands, which had been successfully sent in
earlier command sessions, was not accepted by the instrument. The instrument
team is investigating the possible cause of this rejection. Additional
commands sent during this session were accepted by the CRIS instrument and
processed normally. Commanding to S3DPU involved loading a table that
required 48 separate commands. When this load was uplinked the instrument
rejected all 48 commands. Additional commands sent to the S3DPU were
processed without errors. The S3DPU team is investigating this anomaly.
Lastly, a SWICS high voltage ramp up session was completed without problems.
Anomalies:

Operations Day -- 310/1997 (6 Nov 97)
Summary:
Nominal pass with a succesfull checkout of new receiver software at Station
D24. Performed instrument commanding to the CRIS and SIS instruments. Large
increases in solar activity over the past few days have resulted in the Star
Scanner False_Alarm_Count jumping from an average of ~20 per spacecraft
rotation to a fluctuating value of between 70 and 100+. In addition, the
Scanner Background_Count has gone from ~0 up to ~17. During this
period Flight Dynamics has not noticed any degredation in the Scanner data.
Additionally, during this pass the FOT set the inactive C&DH Selectable
Telemetry Byte to the XM_YM_FWDRAD_T at the request of APL to determine the
status of this sensor, which had failed prior to launch. Comparison of the C&
DH A and C&DH B values for this sensor showed that the C&DH B side sensor
is now operating normally. This information has been forwarded to APL and
the ACE Project.
Lastly, an investigation into why the Star Scanner appeared to be performing
a software reset every few minutes identified a problem with the TPOCC
database that is causing this a number of Scanner parameters to flag
incorrectly. The FOT verified that the Scanner has not performed a reset and
is healthy.
Anomalies:
1. Star scanner false alarm count STAR_FA_CNT jumped to 70-100 false alarms
per rotation after X2 solar flare of previous two days.
2. DSN station D24 tested new Block 5 receiver exciter software at 1716 and
1717. No discrepancies noted at MOC.

Operations Day -- 311/1997 (7 Nov 97)
Summary:
Nominal pass which included an attitude correction maneuver and commanding to
the SIS instrument to take advantage of the current state of increased solar
activty. Reduction in the severity of solar activity have occurred over the
last 24 hours and the ACE Star Scanner False_Alarm_Count has dropped from a
high of over 100 back down to a nominal value of ~20. In addition, the
Scanner Background_Count has dropped from ~17 to ~0. It appears that no
permanent damage was done to the Scanner during this event. In addition, no
effects were seen on the ACE SSRs during this increase in solar activity.

Operations Day -- 314/1997 (10 Nov 97)
Summary:
Today's pass included a thirty minute data dropout due to Nascom line
problems between GSFC and JPL. Full SSR data recovery was achieved and a
significant portion of the pass was spent on commanding to both the SWICS and
SWIMS instruments. The SEPICA and SIS instrument teams decided against
performing commanding that was scheduled for today.

Operations Day -- 315/1997 (11 Nov 97)
Summary:
Good pass with a brief data dropout at the end of the pass because the
personnel at station D16 brought down their telemetry system early by
mistake. Commanding was performed for the SIS, SWICS, and SWIMS instrument
teams. The SEPICA team called the MOC to check on some telemetry values but
decide not to perform commanding during this contact. Because the SWIMS
instrument did not respond properly to the initial commanding session
performed early in the pass, the FOT performed additional commanding toward
the end of the pass which cut short the time available to redump missing
frames of SSR data. Even without these redumps, SSR recovery for this pass
was over 99%.

Operations Day -- 316/1997 (12 Nov 97)
Summary:
Nominal pass (this pass was only 3.25 hours in length due to DSN scheduling
constraints) which included an attitude maneuver and commanding to the CRIS
and SIS instruments. The CRIS instrument stopped transmitting science data
and stopped accepting commands during this pass. The instrument team decided
to have the FOT power-cycle the instrument to see if it would recover.
After the power cycling was completed, the instrument began responding to
commands and transmiting telemetry. Additional CRIS commanding was performed
during the remainder of the pass to configure and check-out the instrument
and the instrument team is currently investigating the cause of this
anomaly. Due to the short pass length, manuever operations, and the CRIS
anomaly, the spacecraft remained in ADC downlink format for the entire pass
(full CRIS and SIS data is in this format). Science format telemetry was
being recorded during this entire period so there is no overall mission
impact to using ADC downlink format for the duration of the pass.

Operations Day -- 329/1997 (25 Nov 97)
Summary:
Nominal pass which included an attitude correction maneuver and commanding to
the SWEPAM E&I, and SWIMS instruments. Todays pass had a higher than normal
number of missing VC2 frames in the initial SSR dump (45 compared to a
nominal day when there are less than 10). Time required for the attitude
maneuver and for the instrument commanding prohibited the FOT from recovering
all of the missing SSR frames. The remaining frames will be redumped on day
330.
Anomalies:
14:32:00 Rcvr B was not in-lock on acquisition. Ran G_INITIAL_CONTACT
anyway. Asked DSS16 to resweep, receiver was in-lock after resweep.
Activities:
14:32:00 - DSS16 AOS

Operations Day -- 332/1997 (28 Nov 97)
Summary:
Todays pass again contained numerous frame drops during the SSR replay.
Contacted D16 - They were seeing good data. Also contacted IPNOC who also
verified seeing clean data. JPL reloaded SFG but frame drops continued. In
addition, todays pass started 39 minutes late because the TRMM launch slip
took priority over previously scheduled ACE time at D16. Commanding to the
SWIMS instrument was also accomplished during this pass.
Anomalies:

Summary:
Today pass included a large number of frame drops and a crash of the TPOCC
Packet Extractor task during the SSR replay. Commanding to the CRIS
instrument was performed to take advantage of increases in solar
activity. During the CRIS commanding the CRIS science team noticed that the
instrument's FORTH library may have become corrupted during the solar flux
increase. The library was dumped for investigation and future corrective
actions will be planned for next week as necessary.
Anomalies:
